On Tattoos

Primo Levi, on page 27 of his highly-quoted book Survival in Auschwitz, writes that every prisoner had to have a tattoo. “It seems that this is the real, true initiation: only by showing one's number can one get bread and soup.” Without a tattoo, how did Wiesel survive?

“Who’s Afraid of Elie Wiesel?”

Theater J (for Jewish) "caved" to the Nobel laureate when he FedExed a letter to the playwright that his lawyers would make sure her play, Imagining Madoff, featuring Bernie Madoff, Elie Wiesel and a secretary, never reached the stage. According to the Washington Post, Wiesel used the words "obscene" and "defamatory" and added, "Nothing of me is in your script!" The story, written by Ted Scheinman and Jonathan L. Fischer, is here.

Revisionists should realize that the world isn’t only an English spoken world, but their work, expecially when valuable, should be for the world. Anyway almost all in the world are quite able to understand English written, their difficulty is understanding the English spoken. There is a big difference, may be for you it’s difficult to gauge, but there is. English subtitles would be a great step for spreading your work.

I want to do a 2nd video, bringing my Elie Wiesel research on this blog up to date. But English subtitles for an English language film doesn’t make much sense to me. The narrator of this video is an Englishwoman — maybe that made it more difficult for you to understand?

It makes sense Carolyn, believe me, i am sure it is a big problem for many.
For you, being English your language, it’s difficult to understand that issue, I know. But most of strangers understand English written, but or due to pronunciation , or simply because they use to read English in Internet, not to hear English spoken, they aren’t able to understand. So they start to watch a movie but it’s too hard and boring, so they regularly leave quickly. I saw the difference when there were subtitles. Subtitles help very much a stranger,a very big difference, believe me.
